World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to build peace, promote justice, and reach their full potential. This is done by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
World Vision serves 100 million people in nearly 100 countries around the world. They serve all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender. Of the more than 40,000 staff employed by World Vision, 97% work in their home countries or regions. Familiar with the culture and language, their staff members bring to World Vision a deeply personal understanding of how best to assist local children and families.
In partnership with their donors, World Vision is transforming communities all over the world with programs that support health, nutrition, hygiene, agriculture, economic development, child protection, and education.
I am particularly excited about a new World Vision education project that utilizes local community educators who volunteer their time to support child learning in some of the most educationally-deprived areas of the developing world.
According to World Vision’s Director of Education and Life Skills, Micael Olsson, “large classrooms, few learning materials, and a shortage of trained teachers prevent millions of vulnerable children from ever mastering basic reading and mathematics skills, much less the essential critical thinking or interpersonal skills they need to go on to lead productive and fulfilling lives. To help address these issues, World Vision is joining hands with the Global University for Lifelong Learning (GULL) in harnessing the power of self-directed action learning to professionalize the work of community educators. They generate local materials, strengthen classroom instruction, lead complementary after-school activities, and mobilize families to contribute to learning in the home.”
All profits from the sale of this book will be donated to assist in the expansion of World Vision’s GULL program with volunteer educators in Ethiopia, Malawi, and Burundi.

How does your gift of animals make a difference? When you give any animal through World Vision, a family will get much more than just an animal. Animals are distributed to families and community groups, along with things like feed and vaccines. They are trained in animal care and agriculture, so the children have healthy balanced diets. Soon, families have extra animals, eggs, or dairy products that they can share with other families or sell so they have money for school, healthcare, and clothing. Some animals also provide wool for making the clothes.
